Kostenko est un défenseur mobile à caractère offensif, confortable aussi bien à la gauche qu’à la droite. Son patin est fluide et ses mains agiles. Il aime contrôler le jeu particulièrement sur l’avantage numérique où il se portera en support à l’attaque. Son tir de la pointe est puissant. Défensivement c’est plus ardu, son positionnement est défaillant et il se fait souvent prendre à contrepieds à un contre un. Il arbore un jeu physique malgré son gabarit encore frêle.

Faiblesses: positionnement et prise de décision en zone défensive défaillants. Aurait intérêt à jouer l’homme au lieu de la rondelle.

Mobile defenseman with a knack for offense. He is comfortable to defend on both sides. Skating stride is fluid and hands agile. He likes to control the play particularly on the power play where he’ll support the attack. Shot from the point is strong. Defensively it’s more difficult, positioning is deficient and we see him often beaten at one on one. Even though his body needs growth he will play a physical game.

Weaknesses: positioning and decision making in his zone difficult at times. Should learn to play the man instead of the puck.
