Lambert était un espoir très haut coté il y a 3 ans, on le prévoyait même sortir premier au total à son année de repêchage. À sa 2 saison complète dans la Liiga son jeu nous dicte autrement et nous garde quelque peu sur notre appétit. On ne voit rien côté progression afin de l’estimer encore un choix Top 10. Certes il possède un coup de patin meilleur que la moyenne avec des habiletés intéressantes sauf qu’il est très facile de garder son jeu en périphérie et/ou de le freiner physiquement. C’est cet aspect qu’il devra travailler sans quoi sa carrière sera limitée à un rôle de soutien. Ses mains sont rapides et son lancer décoché sans trop d’avertissement son meilleur atout. Il a l’instinct de compteur. C’est ce qu’on remarque lorsqu’on le voit évoluer sur l’avantage numérique. Défensivement il est impliqué mais on réalise rapidement que ce n’est pas un style de jeu qui lui est propre.
S’il se développe suffisamment afin de chasser une intimidation physique dans son jeu il pourrait très bien constituer un beau projet.
Lambert was a high seen prospect 3 years ago. Talks were even putting him first overall. At his second season in the Liiga his play has slowed expectations a tad. We see very little progress to convey him as a Top 10 pick. His skating is better than average but it’s very easy to prevent him from working in the middle of the ice and/or stop him physically. He’ll have to work on that aspect otherwise he could become a supporting cast in the NHL. His hands are quick and his shot is his best asset. He’s got the scorer’s instinct. That’s what we notice when we see him involved on the power play. Defensively he is engaged but it’s easy to notice that it’s not his favorite part of the game.
If he can develop into a more mature player physically and be able to compete in that part of the game he could very well become an interesting project.
