J’essaie toujours de garder un esprit ouvert lorsque j’analyse un espoir et voyant Savoie très hautement classé dans la plupart des listes je partais avec un enthousiasme certain.
Il ne m’a pas pris très longtemps pour penser différemment. Matthew est un petit joueur rapide et habile avec la rondelle, avec une forte préférence pour l’offensive. Il est souvent un des premiers à quitter afin de se rendre en zone adverse. J’aurais aimé le voir avec une meilleure possession de rondelle car on le voit souvent précipiter ses gestes sous pression. Son jeu de feinte est limité. Durant l’avantage numérique il est majoritairement à la pointe droite et lorsqu’il lance au filet il doit s’avancer vers le gardien afin d’avoir une meilleure précision sur ses tirs. Défensivement il glisse trop souvent à mon goût vers sa zone avec la mentalité de se positionner pour récupérer la rondelle et filer en zone adverse que de véritablement appuyer ses coéquipiers profondément. Sa force est son efficacité à gagner ses mises au jeu.
On peut voir un joueur habile offensivement mais il a beaucoup à faire afin de devenir un choix de première ronde.

It didn’t take long to change my mind. Matthew is a small fast and skilled player, with an offensive talent. He is often one of the first to fly towards the offensive zone. I would have liked to see better puck protection and when under pressure he tends to precipitate his decisions. His dekes are limited. While on the power play he’ll mostly be on the right point where he needs to skate nearer the goalie as to shoot with precision. Defensively he’ll often glide back to his zone and seems to be there solely with the purpose of recuperating the puck and fly back to the O zone instead of supporting profoundly his teammates. He’ll help his team with his good work between the dots.
We see an offensive minded player lacking at this moment what it needs to be a first round choice.
