La totalité de l’oeuvre de Tristan Luneau démontre que les recruteurs ont vu juste en le repêchant tout premier à l’encan des Olympiques de Gatineau de 2020. Dès les premiers moments on remarque un niveau élite dans la plupart des facettes de son jeu. Son coup de patin est excellent, avec une forte accélération dans ses premières enjambées hormis le fait qu’il doit donner dans l’effort pour y arriver, ce qui se travaillera avec le temps. Son maniement de rondelle et ses habiletés font de lui un joueur qui dirige bien le jeu et ses passes sont normalement précises et réfléchies. Il se porte à l’attaque sans sacrifier le côté défensif. Offensivement, il deviendra selon moi encore meilleur lorsqu’il montera les échelons. Sur l’avantage numérique il bouge bien la rondelle et son tir est à point (et oui, finalement un défenseur qui n’a pas peur d’utiliser son lancer frappé!).
Dans sa zone il joue l’homme pour séparer la rondelle du porteur. Son positionnement est excellent, il est solide le long des bandes. Il devra travailler à garder une meilleure distance à un contre un, ce qui n’est pas une tâche trop ardue.
Tristan me rappelle un défenseur des années 80, Robert Picard, qui a brièvement évolué avec le Canadiens. Maintenant vous avez une idée de mon âge …
Recruiters from Les Olympiques de Gatineau have made a great choice to select him first overall at the 2020 draft. When we see him for the first time we notice an elite level in many aspects of his play. His skating is excellent with a strong acceleration in his first steps even though he seems to need lots of efforts to get there a detail that can easily be corrected with time. Puck handling skills help him to control the play with ease and make smart and well thought first passes. He’ll support the offense without sacrificing the work in his zone. Imo his offensive production will improve when he’ll play at a higher level. On the power play he moves the puck well and his shot is an asset (yes, he’s a D who’s not afraid of using the slap shot!).
In his zone he plays the body to separate the puck from the carrier. Positioning is excellent and solid work along the boards. He’ll need to work on his gap control on those one on one but that will be a small challenge to achieve.
Tristan reminds me of Robert Picard a defenseman of the 80’s who briefly played with the Montreal Canadiens. Now you guessed my age …
